Blazing SaddlesOne of the classic comedies. Who cares if it was politically incorrect or gross--it was outright rolling-in-the-aisles hilarious. They don't make 'em like this anymore, which is a shame. If you haven't seen it, you owe it to yourself. I'm not a fan of potty humor, like The Forty-Year-Old Virgin, but this has a lot more going for it. It's clever. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Blazing SaddlesYou know, I liked this movie, but I didn't love it. It's certainly not Mel Brooks best, not when compared to Young Frankenstein and Robin Hood, Men In Tights. I truly like Gene Wilder, yet I didn't care much for the character he played in this. I have heard that Brooks tried to get Richard Pryor to play the black sheriff, and I believe that would have made this movie great. Pryor and Wilder had a chemistry that couldn't be beat. There are some funny moments in here, but I don't feel it's consistent. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Blazing SaddlesThe other Mel Brooks classic (along with 'Young Frankenstein') from 1974. In this one, he spoofs the Jimmy Stewart, Marlena Deitrich western classic, "Destry Rides Again" (1939), among others while employing liberal uses of known cliches, situational gags and archetypal characterizations. Co-written by Richard Pryor (among others) and starring Cleavon Little as "Sheriff Bart", Gene Wilder as "The Waco Kid", Madeline Kahn as "Lili Von Shtupp", and Harvey Korman as "Hedy ("That's Hedley!") Lamarr." Comedy hijinks abound as Bart and his pal "The Kid" try to rally the citizens of Rockridge into putting aside their prejudice's in order to save the town from the governor (Played by Brooks) and his hired henchmen (led by veteran Western character actor Slim Pickens as Taggert.) A romp from beginning to end and worthy many repeated viewings. What a year we had at the movies back in 74! My sides are still aching. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Blazing SaddlesFunny movie, but not one of Mel Brooks best. A lot of the humor I understood, They tried very hard to make a hilarious film, and only ended up with something mildly amusing. Gene Wilder does a great performance as always. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Blazing SaddlesGreat line(s): "I heard you was hung!"; "And they was right!" Another reviewer commented how this would not go over to well nowadays, and I'll have to agree--I saw it for the first time not too long ago, and some things were jaw-droppingly offensive, but ignoring that, it had some funny moments. Chock full of a lot of racial humor, it won't go over well for anyone who is particularly sensitive to it, it's kinda hard to get past. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Blazing SaddlesAlthough one or two of the jokes are funny, on the whole the film is creativly barren, filled with low-brow jokes and mindless profanities. I have to give it credit for breaking the fourth wall, hence the one additional star, but that is all. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Blazing SaddlesNot only one of the greatest comedies ever, it is one of the greatest movies ever, period. I watched it with a friend, and he thought it was nothing but racist, foul mouthed language. But it isn't. There are so many subtle jokes, then there are just blatant. I first watched this movie when I was in Junior High, and I didn't understand some of it. Even now when I watch it, I'll catch something new. The background people do some funny things too. An amazing movie, with a moral. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Blazing SaddlesA movie that probably could not be made today, this is arguably one of the finest pieces of American cinema. I don't feel that I'm exagerrating. From subtle lines to the most offensive gags ("More beans, Mr. Taggart?"), Blazing Saddles never tries to be anything it's not and comes out being so much more; a real reflection of Amercan society and humor in the mid 20th century. I recently watched this film with some college-aged people (18-22) and, sadly, having grown up with political correctness, sound bites, and slapstick-only humor, the really genius moments were lost to them. Examples, "The sherrif's a n-(church bell), "...my mother is Dutch!" and even, "It's twoo, it's twoo!" These poor kids just didn't get it. Needless to say, the fart scene was a big hit. If your life experiences have taken you beyond your television, watch this movie. But if that's the case, chances are you already have. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Blazing SaddlesMel's best? Perhaps. I didn't realize just how great of a movie this was until I watched it recently. So many classic scenes and great characters- Hedley Lemarr, Mongol ("only pawn in game of life"), et all. The film has a good way of mocking racism. And 17 is my limit on Schnitzengruben. Blazing SaddlesBlazing Saddles is the last spoof you'd want to have on your wish list. It is never, ever funny, and is an embarrassment to Mel Brooks, who really tried his best to spoof westerns, but this movie is totally dull and boring. Blazing SaddlesOne the best parodies I have ever had the joy of watching - several dozen times! So many hilarious and memorable lines - just thinking about them cracks me up. The entire cast is excellent but Clevon Little, Gene Wilder and Madeline Kahn are priceless. There are too many great parts in this movie to actually say I have a favorite. I just start laughing at "I get no kick from Champagne" and don't stop until Clevon and Gene drive off into the sunset. Some of the greatest comic therapy available!
