Dune [DVD] [Widescreen]The book was great. The movie was definitely not. I fell asleep through it the first time around. I gave it another try and was underwhelmed. One of the cheesiest lines I ever heard in cinema was when Sting yelled in the middle of his climactic fight to the death with Paul Maud'dib, "I will kill him!!!" It is lampooned quite often in "Mystery Science Theater 3000." Thank stars they elected not to do Dune sequels. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Dune [DVD] [Widescreen]I had read several of the Dune books before seeing this movie in its original run, and it still didn't make a whole lot of sense. For the uninitiated, it would have to be an even worse ordeal. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Dune [DVD] [Widescreen]Not a good movie. The acting is mediocre at best. The story and script had obvious potential but the onscreen version not only falls flat but is riddled with long boring stretches. It can also be quite confusing at times and requires patience and good attention. Not quite so bad as many crap films on this list though so I won't rate it a 1. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Dune [DVD] [Widescreen]
A guilty pleasure for sure, but the more I see this movie, the more I like it. Some of the effects weren't the best but it went further and developed a more surreal universe as a setting than most sci-fi (loved the fact that mathmeticians were the ones with the power, loved the utterly diabolical Harkonnen way of life, loved when they used voice alone as a weapon). A couple of the worm scenes on Arakis were well done, giving that sense of the worms awesome size and endless, wasteland quality of the desert. I read the book too, after seeing the movie, and enjoyed it. I think people who read the book first were porbably outraged with the movie, but I can't help but like it.
