Windtalkers [DVD] [Canadian; Director's Cut]I was very much looking forward to this movie, but was very disappointed by it. First of all, I'm expecting to learn about the Navajo code used in WWII to confuse and ultimately defeat the Japanese. It was a true turning point in the war, but you wouldn't know it from this film. In fact, very little of the film is dedicated to it. More time is spent on showing how badly the Navajo were treated by the white soldiers, and that's a shameful thing to have happened, but it's not what the movie was supposed to be about. Also, ten minutes at a time are dedicated to shooting and blasting, and it reaches a point to where you don't know who exactly is doing what to whom. All those explosions and blasts with people getting their legs and arms blown off have been done in so many war movies lately that it's not something you want to see anymore. Of course, it's a horrible reality of war, but to focus on that makes this movie just like so many others. The filmmakers should have used their time to really look into this relatively unknown part of WWII instead of focusing on Nicolas Cage the whole time. The plot was all over the place, and the part they should have focused on--the Navajo Windtalkers and their undeniable importance to the American war effort--is completely lost in the commotion. Windtalkers [DVD] [Canadian; Director's Cut]Definitely not the best war movie I've ever seen, but it wasn't the worst. I didn't like how it was supposed to be about the Navajos and it ended up focusing much more time and attention on Nicholas Cage's emotional and physical problems than on the supposed title characters. The Navajo storyline was beautifully done and very interesting, but the director found it more important to show Cage's internal battles rather than the key importance of the Navajos during World War II. Several times I commented on the explosions, since they were very obviously fireworks. It does have some powerful moments, like when a soldier is giving a little girl chocolate and. . .well, I won't say what happens, but it's gruesome. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Windtalkers [DVD] [Canadian; Director's Cut]this wasn't a good war movie. some things in this movie are not true to history. in some of the battle scenes, the japanese soldiers appear to be bad soldiers. in some scenes, most of the soldiers couldn't kill the american standing right in front of them. in reality, the japanese soldiers were the some of the best trained in the entire world. i think Cage is too old to play this part. he's almost 40 and he's playing a marine sergeant. he's too old for the part. If your haven't noticed from watching the movie, everything is off. The american grenades make an explosion the size of a artillery shell. The Japanese soldiers are shown as having no hand to hand combat skills. Terrible historical film. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Windtalkers [DVD] [Canadian; Director's Cut]
Ok, every director is entitled to his own vision. But WWII movies Hong Kong style is a bit too much.Nicolas Cage is, as always, excellent, but when you play the part of a derranged Rambo it is pretty hard to come up with anything. In short, leave the war movies to other directors, mr.Woo.
