Product Details of The Adventures of Robin Hood

Description

In Michael Curtiz's swashbuckling spectacle about the infamous outlaw and his band of merry men who robbed from the rich and gave to the poor, Robin Hood (Errol Flynn) fights nobly for justice against the evil Sir Guy of Gisbourne (Basil Rathbone) while striving to win the hand of the beautiful Maid Marian (Olivia de Havilland). Flynn joyously embraces the role widely considered the best of his bountiful array of swashbuckling legends. Delivering his lines and performing dashing acrobatics (he did most of his own stunts) with breezy élan, he darts across the intricate sets of THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD as if there are rocket boosters secreted in his tights. It was one of the earliest films to use three-color Technicolor and, at the time, the most expensive film Warner Bros. had produced. Erich Wolfgang Korngold's outstanding score won an Oscar, as did the art direction and the editing.

The Adventures of Robin Hood

The best version and a true classic. Erroll Flynn owns the Robin Hood role. Good supporting cast all do a fine job making the legend come alive. The only quibble I have with the versions I've seen is the early color hues can be a bit much at times. Keep in mind this was new technology at that time.

one of the best Robin hoods ever

Strengths: the remastered edition rocks!

Weakness: none

This is a true masterpiece of movie-making. Olivia de Havilland plays a very convincing marian and Errol Flynn's mastery of the sword was delightful. The archery contest is a turning point in the movie and Claude Rains' role as Prince John will be remembered as one of the most devious villains.

The Adventures of Robin Hood

Fun, rollicking good time. Erroll Flynn at his swashbuckling best. Great supporting performances by Claude Rains, Basil Rathbone, Alan Hale, and Eugene Pallette.

The Adventures of Robin Hood

Forget Costner's version. Errol Flynn IS Robin Hood. Sure it is a bit cheesy and dated, especially with trite and silly 30s attitudes. One of the first color films. This is a movie to be watched for the sheer old-fashioned rollicking fun of it. One of the great and very influential Korngold scores, too.
