Description

Based on the engrossing nonfiction work by Sebastian Junger about the Andrea Gail--a commercial swordfishing boat that was lost at sea in October 1991--Wolfgang Petersen's THE PERFECT STORM brings the pages to life. The movie features a big-name cast (George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg) playing the gruff, edgy fishermen in the Gloucester, Massachusetts, port, as well as close-up camera shots of the boats moored on the wintry docks. Viewers are drawn into the closely knit New England community that is struck speechless by a fierce nor'easter made from three merging hurricanes. Meteorologists call it the Perfect Storm. Despite the weather forecast, skipper Billy Tyne (Clooney) insists that his crew go out on one more 30-day swordfishing trip before the winter sets in. At sea, a series of tragedies ensues, including a man dragged overboard by one of the 300-foot-long lines and a bloodthirsty shark that gets reeled onto the deck accidentally. What's worse, the skipper's right-hand man, Bobby Shatford (Wahlberg), is homesick for his girlfriend back onshore. But it is not until the storm finally hits and the special effects--mountainous dark digitized waves--take hold that the Andrea Gail is rendered helpless even to Coast Guard helicopters and THE PERFECT STORM's terrifying true-story tragedy becomes reality.

Perfect Storm Blu-ray Disc

A long slow build-up for a big-bang style climax.

Perfect Storm Blu-ray Disc

What amazed me is how well lit the ocean was during that terrible blow. Here I thought it might have been pitch dark.

Perfect Storm Blu-ray Disc

This was an excellent movie. I think it would have been good even without the stars cast in it. The story can hold its own. Well acted, well filmed, it was a fairly intense film.

Hated this movie. Not long before it came out I saw a documentry on this very boat and crew and the movie completely changed the personalities of the people involved. Good action but not a good adaption of the events.

Good film, better if you see it on a theatre screen. Home video will kill some of the effects. Sucky ending, but they can't all be happy ones.

Perfect Storm Blu-ray Disc

Boring. 2 hours are spent building characters we all know are going to die. yet it fails miserably to endear the characters to those watching. Much of the movie is just inane banter that was made to fill time. No one knows what was said by the men on the boat so it has to be taken with a grain of salt. Just too many long and boring periods for this movie to really entertain or engage the viewer...

Perfect Storm Blu-ray Disc

How this film made so much money is a mystery to me. Okay, the villain of the piece is....a big storm...that everyone knows about...but our protagonists don't care...because thar be fish in dem dar waves. George Clooney and Mark Walberg are both talented actors but not even their skills can overcome corny dialogue and a story that may make for good reading but makes for excrutiating viewing.
